£315 millionAbacha loot returned to Nigeria
State of Jersey in the Channels Island has agreed to return £315million to the Nigerian Government as part of money laundered by the late Nigerian dictator General Sani Abacha.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that this was made known by the Ballif of Jersey , Michael Birt during a dinner in honour of the Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Dr. Dalhatu Tafida during a State visit to the Island.
The money was said to have laundered by Indian business man Raj Bhojwani currently serving an 8 years jail sentence in a UK prison on behalf of the late General Abacha.
Jersey the biggest territory in the Channels Island a group of islands in the English Channel is known for its transparent banking system. The Island once returned £140 million of Abacha's loot to the Nigerian Government.
